A house on Zapotal Island, between the Pacific and the protected mangroves of Portete, Esmeraldas. You arrive only by boat — and that is part of the adventure.

A RAMA estudio project

Minimal housing in bamboo, wood, and toquilla straw — local, renewable, biodegradable materials — with a biodigester so the mangrove stays clean. Today it is a responsible-tourism project that supports the Portete community: every beach walk is a chance to pick up plastics.

The house

Open, continuous spaces for eight guests, with no closed bedrooms: only the bathrooms have doors. Hot water, equipped kitchen, and unlimited Wi-Fi. One rate all year.

What to do

Mangrove tours, a fishing tour, and a night tour to see bioluminescent plankton.
